It’s been stormy out there! Heavy rain, strong winds and gusts, and lots of fallen trees. During this time of year, we see an increase in emergency tree removal requests. However, we recommend removing a dead or diseased tree before Mother Nature does it for you. Preventing the issue before it happens will save you time, stress and most importantly money.

However, how do you know if it’s time to remove a tree?
• The Tree is dead – this may be the most obvious reason. If it’s already dead, it’s only a matter of time before it goes down. But how can you tell if the tree is dead? Perform this simply test: Scrape bark from a small twig or branch. If the tissue under the bark is green and moist, the tree may still be alive. If you’re still not sure, ask your commercial landscaping service provider to take a look and provide you with a recommendation.
• Leaning—if a tree is too close to the building, parking lot spaces, utility lines, etc. and leans closer day-to-day, it should be removed.
• Damaged—if the tree has already been damaged (perhaps by lighting or storm), it may not be standing for long.

These are the most obvious signs that a tree should come down before Mother Nature does it for you. However, if you’re unsure, or just don’t have the time (after all you have a business to run or property to manage), give your landscaper or a local tree professional a call.
